Approaches in Administration of Japanese Language Education for Caregiving of Japanese Elderly

Abstract

The objective of this research is to examine the approaches in administration of Japanese language education for caregiving of Japanese elderly and explore how they can be implemented in Japan. The study is divided into two steps: 1) Review of literature related to administration of Japanese language education’s for caregiving of Japanese elderly 2) Examination of management approaches in Japanese language education for Japanese elderly caregiving through in-depth semi-structured interviews. Key informants include: three school administrators responsible for the Japanese elderly caregiving. Nine Japanese language teachers for Japanese elderly caregiving, both Thai and Japanese nationals. Four Japanese language students for Japanese elderly caregiving. And four Japanese elderly who have received care from three schools in Thailand and Japan. The selection of participants was done through purposive sampling, totaling 20 people. The research tools used for data collection include in-depth semi-structured interviews, content analysis of interview data, and summarization of key points from the interviews. The research findings indicate that the approaches in managing Japanese language education for the Japanese elderly caregiving and the implementation of these practices in Japan can be classified into six aspects: 1) Curriculum utilization 2) Teaching and learning management                3) Teacher instruction 4) Information technology and media communication 5) Measurement and evaluation of results 6) Cross-cultural education (Thai-Japanese).
