Abstract

The research article is a part of a creativity project entitled ASEAN Love Song Creativity Project. This qualitative research is an integration between ethnomusicology and composition areas of study which aims to 1) study the love songs of ASEAN countries, and 2) create a new Thai composition for contemporary Thai ensemble and a new composition for wind symphonic band.
The results are as follow: The love songs of ASEAN countries are: 1) Shwe Man Taung Yeik Kho of Myanmar 2) Duang Jampa of Lao PDR 3) Arapiya of Cambodia 4) Que Huang Vietnam of Vietnam 5) Rasa Sayang of Malaysia 6) Anding Dida of Brunei 7) Bengawan Solo of Indonesia 8) Dahil Sayo and Bahay Kubo of the Philippines 9) Singapura, Sunny Island of Singapore, and 10) Bupphesanniwat, Tonworachet, and Loikrathong of Thailand. Those songs were transcribed into western notation and have become the creativity ideas of a new Thai composition in medley style based on Thai composition techniques, entitled “ASEAN Ruamchai” for contemporary Thai ensemble, and a new composition based on western composition techniques, entitled “ASEAN Rhapsody” for wind symphonic band
