คัมภีร์อุทาน: ความรู้เรื่องธรรมเนียม และประเพณีทางศาสนาสาหรับฆราวาส

Abstract

บทความนี้มุ่งศึกษาคุณค่าของคัมภีร์อุทานในแง่การถ่ายทอดความรู้เรื่องธรรมเนียมและประเพณีทางศาสนาสาหรับฆราวาส ผลการศึกษาพบว่าคัมภีร์อุทานอธิบายธรรมเนียมและประเพณีต่างๆ ในสมัยพุทธกาล ได้แก่ ธรรมเนียมการเข้าเฝ้าพระพุทธเจ้า ธรรมเนียมการปฏิสันถาร ธรรมเนียมการต้อนรับ ประเพณีการทาบุญเลี้ยงพระ ประเพณีการทาบุญตักบาตร ประเพณีการบวช และประเพณีการทาศพ ซึ่งธรรมเนียมและประเพณีทางศาสนาบางประการได้รับการสืบทอดมาจวบจนถึงปัจจุบัน การศึกษาครั้งนี้ทาให้ประจักษ์คุณค่าของคัมภีร์อุทานทั้งในฐานะคู่มือปฏิบัติตนของฆราวาสและข้อมูลประกอบในการศึกษาเชิงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างคติชนกับศาสนาด้วย

The Utāna: Knowledge on Religious Customs and Tradition for Layman

This article aims to investigate the merits of the Utāna in passing on  nowledge on religious customs and traditions for laymen. It is found that the Utāna explains various customs and traditions in the Buddha era, including having an audience with the Buddha, salutation and welcoming customs, merit making and food offering to monks, ordination, and cremation. Some of the customs and traditions have been carried on until present. This study points out the merits of the Utāna as a guideline for laymen to follow and also as useful information for studying the relationship between folk wisdoms and religions.
