เทวดารักษาทิศในอาธิไท้โพธิบาทว์

Abstract

บทความนี้มุ่งศึกษาเรื่องเทวดารักษาทิศในวรรณกรรมเรื่องอาธิไท้โพธิบาทว์ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของจารึกวัดพระเชตุพน แสดงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างบทบาทหน้าที่ของเทวดารักษาทิศกับอุบาทว์ที่เทวดาเหล่านั้นเป็นผู้บันดาลให้เกิดขึ้น เทวดาผู้รักษาทิศทั้งแปดซึ่งหมายถึงดูแลโลก ได้แก่ พระอินทร์ พระเพลิง พระยม พระนารายณ์ พระพิรุณ พระพาย พระโสม และพระไพสพ เหตุการณ์ที่เทวดา 8 องค์บันดาลเพื่อให้รู้ล่วงหน้าเป็นการคุ้มครองป้องกันโลก เทพแต่ละองค์จะบันดาลเหตุการณ์สอดคล้องกับอานุภาพและหน้าที่ตามที่ปรากฏในเทพปกรณัมของฮินดู แสดงกระบวนการคิดที่นาคติพราหมณ์ฮินดูมาใช้กับสังคมไทยอย่างกลมกลืน

The World-Protector Guardians in Athithaiphothibaht

This research article aims at investigating the roles of world-protector  uardians in Athithaiphothibaht which appears in Wat Phrachetuphon inscriptions. It represents the relationships between the world-protector guardians’ duties and bad omens created by the guardians. The duties of the world-protector guardians, namely Indra, Agni, Yama, Narayana, Varuna, Vayu, Soma and Kuvera, are to look after the world. The omens created by those eight guardians work as prognostications. They are the ways in which the divine guardians employed to protect the world. Each guardian creates the omens according to his power and duty as inscribed in Hindu mythology. It indicates the homogenous blend of Brahman-Hindu in Thai society.
