ROLE OF MONKS IN BUILDING TEMPLE AT PRESENT

Abstract

This academic article aimed to study the role of monks in building temples for the benefit of Buddhism and to present the concept of temple building. The results of the study were found that the role of monks in building a temple could be divided into 4 levels: 1) temple development, 2) people living in the temple development, 3) community development, 4) mental development of community people to be safe for stability, prosperity and sustainability, consisting of morality, and ethics that would be able to develop the community and build the confidence of the people. As for building a temple, it is necessary to have the knowledge to be able to create a temple as a pleasant place to live. As for the concepts related to building temples in the Northeast, monks must have overall ability consisted of 6 attributes: 1) having knowledge, meaning having knowledge of the discipline, laws, the Sangha Act, as well as the basics of construction, 2) having a budget, 3) being creative, 4) responsibility, 5) consisting of 4 principles of influence, which are: love, diligence, care and contemplation, trial and error, etc. 6) Work as a team so that it can build faith for people who meet or come into contact with to get something useful and people would be interested in  studying the doctrine.
