COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINE FOR VIOLENCE IN FAMILY PREVENTION

Abstract

The research aimed to study operations and obstacles for prevention of violence in families in the community of Nang Rong Municipality, Buriram Province and to study the way to develop community participation in prevention of violence in families’ problems. The research was conducted by qualitative research by in-depth interview and focus group discussion. Data were collected from 18 key informants who were qualified people, state officials involved in crime prevention and criminal justice, community leaders and community members.

The research results were as follows: Nang Rong Municipality had clearly defined policies for prevention and solution of domestic violence by establishing monitor committee in local level. However, some significant obstacles were found that the operations that lacked cooperation among community members who had not appreciated attitudes to involve in such problem due to perception of domestic or family affairs. Therefore, there has been organized the way of developing 3 measurements for community participation in prevention and solution of violence in families’ problems, namely, 1. Measurement in family level should include raising awareness and support for giving knowledge to the family. 2. Measurement in community level should include organizing activities in community for enhancing good relationship in families. 3. Measurement in national level, public sector should formulate, in national strategy or master plan by emphasizing application of community justice process in dispute resolution relating to violence in families.
