PEOPLE’S PARTICIPATION IN CRIME PREVENTION AT SOI TON SAI COMMUNITY AREA, TAMBON PHAI LING, AMPHOE PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA, PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA

Abstract

Objectives of this research article were: 1. To study people's participation, 2. To study problems and obstacles, and 3. To study guidelines for promoting and supporting people’s participation in crime prevention at Soi Ton Sai Community Areas, Tambol Phai Ling, Amphoe Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The study employed a qualitative research method by collecting data by in-depth interviewing 17 key informants and analyzing by content descriptive interpretation.

The results of the research revealed that: 1. People’s participation in crime prevention involved the following aspects: Co-decision making; people mainly participated in crime prevention by expressing their opinions, supervising, planning, and making suggestions. Operation: most people attended meetings with officers by talking, caring, and giving advise; In terms of Receiving benefits; most people viewed that the benefits should be for the community rather than for individuals. Evaluation: most people do not participate in the evaluation, 2. Problems and obstacles in participation in crime prevention; included a lack of cooperation from people in the areas. They did not tell officers when there was a crime, and a lack of support budget for the community, and 3. Guidelines; for promoting and obstacles were to supporting people's engagement in crime prevention including bringing together volunteers in each community and using public address systems to notify the community about activities and projects. There should also be advanced technology, such as CCTV covering the area and electrical installation.
