IDEAL CHARACTERISTICS ACCORDING TO BUDDHISM OF MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, CONSTITUENCY 1, RAYONG PROVINCE

Abstract

Objectives of this research article were: 1. Study the ideal characteristics of members of the House of Representatives. 2. To compare the ideal characteristics of members of the House of Representatives, classified by personal factors, and 3. To present guidelines for applying Buddhist principles to promote ideal characteristics according to Buddhism of members of the House of Representatives, conducted by the mixed research methods. The quantitative research, data were collected using a questionnaire from 398 samples who were 18 years of age or older, obtained from Taro Yamane's formula. The data were analyzed using a ready-made statistical program. The qualitative research, data were collected from 9 key informants or people using structured in-depth-interviews script. Data were analyzed using content descriptive interpretation.

The study's results were found that: 1. The ideal characteristics of members of the House of Representatives, according to Buddhism, were rated highly overall. 2. Hypothesis testing revealed that education and occupation influenced opinions on the desirable characteristics of members of the House of Representatives in Electoral District 1, Rayong Province, with statistical significance at the 0.05 level. Differences in gender, age, and income did not significantly affect opinions. 3. Guidelines for applying Buddhist principles to promote ideal characteristics according to Buddhism of members of the House of Representatives, Rayong Province, by applying the principles of Sappurisadhamma 7, namely 1. Members of the House of Representatives should know the reason and sense of duty, be socially responsible 2. Members of the House of Representatives should be a person who knows the results, have goals and be responsible for performing duties 3. Members of the House of Representatives should be a person who knows himself. Know and diligently develop one’s potential and be up to date with society. 4. Members of the House of Representatives should Know moderation by positioning oneself appropriately for the political situation. 5. Knowing the time by analyzing and considering suitability according to time 6. Knowing the community, knowing how to follow the rules and regulations of society, and 7. Knowing people by promoting coexistence and representation of the people.
