Abstract

This research article aimed to identify the components of accountability of school administrators. The process of the study was divided into two steps: 1. synthesizing the components of accountability from 10 documents and research articles, and 2. evaluating the appropriateness of the components by 10 experts, 5 experts participated as questionnaire key informants, and 5 as interview key informants. The research instruments included a synthesis form for accountability components, an evaluation form and a semi-structure interview form for the appropriateness of these components. The data were analyzed for frequency, mean, percentage, and standard deviation.

The research findings revealed that the accountability of school administrators comprised five components: namely 1. Monitoring and evaluation, 2. Goal setting 3. Shared ownership, 4. Morale and 5. Back up planning. All components showed the appropriateness level. The results of this study are beneficial for school administration and other organizations to use as guidelines in developing a sense of accountability among school administrators. This is important because a lack of accountability can lead to management problems characterized by a lack of transparency, disregard for the rule of law, and inefficient and ineffective work. For these reasons, this study is valuable for future school administration. The five components of accountability and their behavioral indicators for educational institution administrators are deemed appropriate and can be implemented by school administrators for future educational applications.
