APPLICATION OF BUDDHIST PRINCIPLES TO PROMOTE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN THE MANAGEMENT OF TRADITIONAL LONG-BOAT RACING OF KHUENG SUB-DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY AT WIANG SA DISTRICT IN NAN PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research paper were: 1. To study the level of public participation in the management of traditional long-boat racing of Khueng sub-district municipality at Wiang Sa district in Nan province 2. To study the relationship between the Aparihaniyadhamma principles and public participation in the management of traditional long-boat racing of Khueng sub-district municipality at Wiang Sa district in Nan province. 3. To present the guidelines for applying the Aparihaniyadhamma principle and public participation in the management of traditional long-boat racing of Khueng sub-district municipality at Wiang Sa district in Nan province. The research was a mixed-methods study consisting of quantitative research by distributing questionnaires to samples of 350 people. Data were analyzed by finding frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's correlation coefficient test. Qualitative research was conducted by conducting in-depth interviews with 10 key informants. Data were analyzed descriptively.

The results showed that 1. The level of public participation in the management of the traditional long-boat racing of Khueng subdistrict municipality was found to be at a high level overall. 2. The relationship between the Aparihaniyadhamma principles and the public participation in the management of the traditional long-boat racing of Khueng subdistrict municipality was found to be at a very high positive level overall (R=0.852). 3. The application of the Aparihaniyadhamma principles and the public participation in the management of the traditional long-boat racing of Khueng subdistrict municipality found that regular meetings allowed for listening to problems in order to find solutions. The requirements from the core leaders of the long-boat racing committee must be approved by the villagers, which are not complicated and clear. If all parties cooperate in following the requirements of the community leaders, the work will go in the same direction. Women expressed their support for the courage to express themselves. Promoting and maintaining the long-boat racing tradition is something that people in the community must cooperate in order to pass on the ancient culture, with the temple as the center.
