Abstract

This article presented an analysis of the trends and challenges of democracy in Southeast Asia, using a comparative analysis among countries in the region, to provide an overview of democratic development and the problems it faces. The article focused on various aspects, such as political, economic, and social changes, public participation in the democratic process, and government governance. The study revealed that Southeast Asian countries have very different democratic developments, both in terms of the strength of democratic institutions and public participation. It also revealed that there were significant challenges that remained obstacles to democratic development, such as economic inequality, political conflicts, and restrictions on freedom of expression. The development of democracy in Southeast Asia still faces challenges, but there are positive trends in strengthening democratic institutions and public participation, which can help create stability and sustainability for political systems in the region in the future.
