A MODEL OF PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL IN PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA PROVINCE

This research article aimed to 1. study the problems of public participation in crime prevention and control in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, 2. to examine the factors influencing such participation, and 3. to propose a model that could enhance citizen involvement. The study adopted a mixed-methods design, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. Qualitative data were obtained from in-depth interviews with fifteen key informants, while quantitative data were collected through questionnaires administered to a sample of four hundred people. The data were analyzed using social science statistical methods.
The findings showed that 1. most citizens did not actively participate in crime prevention and control across four aspects: decision-making, implementation, benefit-sharing, and evaluation. 2. The factors affecting participation were identified as upbringing, family relationships, peers, and involvement in community activities. Based on these results, 3. the study proposed a model of public participation consisting of three initiatives: the People-State Cooperation Project for Household Safety, the Neighborhood Watch Project, and the One Village Headman, One Village Project, all of which provided practical mechanisms for strengthening citizen roles in crime prevention and control in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.
