DEVELOPMENT OF SANGHA ADMINISTRATOR COMPETENCY FOR GOVERNING OF SANGHA IN NONTHABURI PROVINCE

Abstract

Objectives of this research article were: 1. To study the level of work competency. 2. To study the factors affecting the Sangha administratrative monks competency for governing of Sangha in Nonthaburi Province. 3. To propose the development of Sangha administratrative monks competency for governing of Sangha in Nonthaburi Province. This research employed a mixed-methods design. For the quantitative research, the samples consisted of 347 monks in monasteries at Nonthaburi Province. Data were collected through a five-point Likert Scale questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis. For the qualitative research, key informants included monastic administrators, scholars, and stakeholders. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 18 informants using a structured in-depth-interview script, as well as a focus group discussion with 9 participants. The data were analyzed by content descriptive interpretation.

The findings were as follow: 1. The Sangha administrative monks competency for governing of Sangha in Nonthaburi Province was at a high level, by overall. When considered by each aspect, it was also at a high level. 2. The factors affecting the Sangha administratrative monks competency for governing of Sangha in Nonthaburi Province was found that human resource development and the application of the Four Bala significantly affected the development of work competency of Sangha administrative monks in governing the Sangha of Nonthaburi Province in all aspects, at the 0.01 level of significance. Human resource development was able to predict by 55.3 percent of the variance, while the Four Bala could predict 68.2 percent. 3. The development of work competency of the Sangha administrative monjks in governing the Sangha of Nonthaburi Province revealed that, in terms of knowledge, they possessed knowledge regarding Sangha administration; in terms of skills, they had the ability to govern the Sangha with order and propriety; and in terms of work performance ability, they were capable of governing the Sangha in a way that ensured discipline, orderliness, and integrity.
