ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ACADEMIC CONTENT CREATION: ETHICS, TRANSPARENCY, AND GLOBAL STANDARDS FROM A BUDDHIST PERSPECTIVE
Keywords:
Artificial Intelligence, Buddhist Ethics, Academic EthicsAbstract
This academic article aims to examine the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic content creation from the perspective of Buddhist ethics and to propose guidelines for its ethical, transparent, and academically responsible use. The analysis identifies three major roles of AI: 1. supporting information retrieval, analysis, and synthesis; 2. assisting in the creation and organization of academic content; and 3. facilitating the dissemination of knowledge and Buddhist teachings. However, AI also raises concerns regarding data accuracy, transparency, copyright infringement, content distortion, and excessive dependence that may weaken human critical thinking. Therefore, AI use should be guided by two factors leading to Right View: Paratoghosa, or the critical reception and verification of external information, and Yoniso-manasikara, or wise and systematic reflection. These principles should be applied together with the Threefold Training: Sila to ensure ethical conduct, Samadhi to maintain mindful and balanced use, and Panna to evaluate the accuracy and appropriateness of AI-generated information. The synthesis suggests that AI should function as a supportive tool for learning and knowledge creation rather than replace human judgment. Scholars and Buddhist communicators should remain responsible for final verification in order to maintain accuracy, transparency, and academic credibility in the digital age.
