Abstract

                 This paper is to analyses how power relations are expressed in the source text (English) and translated in the target text (Thai). The analytical framework that was applied was drawn from the interpersonal function of systemic functional linguistics (Eggins, 2004). The analysed data are conversations between the two main characters in E. L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey (2011) both in English and Thai versions. The study found that power relationships are expressed in both comparative and declarative clauses in both the English and Thai versions. Euphemisms and final particles in the translation were found to decrease the degree of commands
