The Marginalized as the Forced Sacrifice: A case study of Railway Community of Theparak in Khon Kaen

Abstract

The Qualitative research articles objectives of this research article are 1) to study negative impacts toward the railway community of Theparak (1-5) in Khon Kaen 2) to study the railway community’s resistance and 3) to study the problem solving toward the homeless in the railway community. Research methodology used by 1) documentary study 2) in-depth interview with 14 interviewees and 3) participatory observation. The research results stress that negative impacts consisted of, at least, 6 issues; 1) the state administrators often claimed only law without considering its legitimacy 2) discontinuity in seek the way-out to the community 3) complicated rules to participate in the Khon Kaen Baan Man Kong project 4) the people did not have much money to rent the accommodation 5) lack of occupational chance and 6) removal homes of the marginalized without any caring. Also, the railway community’s resistance consisted of   1) official petition and 2) peaceful protest. Finally, the problem solving toward the homeless were 1) launching the Khon Kaen Baan Man Kong project 2) persuasion the forced sacrifice to buy Baan Man Kong and 3) underrated compensation. All expressed injustice toward them.
