Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study and compare the learning achievement of the first grade primary students on pre-test and post-test using the inquiry cycle (5Es) method 2) to develop scientific process skills in the first grade primary school students by the inquiry cycle (5Es) on the sound topic. The population was the first grade primary students at Watchumpolnikayaram School, during the 2019 Academic year at Ayutthaya Primary Educational Service Area 2. This sample was selected by purposive sampling. The research sample was 25 students from the first grade primary students. The research instruments used were 1) a lesson plan for the sound topic 2) a learning achievement test covering the sound topic 3) a practice skill test for scientific process skill measurement, Achievement test and practice skill test which had content validity 0.67-1.00. The following statistics: mean, percentage, standard deviation and t-test were used for the dependent sample. The results of the study were as follows: 1) the students had an average pre-test score of 22.84 points and an average post-test score of 26.32 points. The scores are significantly higher than the pre-test scores at a 0.05 significance level, 2) the students had scientific process skills test scores  from pre-test practice skill test in classifying ,using numbers, organizing data and communication, measuring, experimenting and predicting which had 1.60, 3.20, 1.80, 2.20, 1.00 and 3.68 respectively, and the students had scientific process skills test scores  from post-test practice skill test in classifying ,using numbers, organizing data and communication, measuring, experimenting and predicting which had 8.60, 8.68, 9.08, 6.60, 8.64 and 6.60 respectively. The scientific process skills scores showed that  post-test higher than pre-test at a significance level of 0.05.
