Transformational Leadership Competencies and the Process of a Transformational Leadership Competency Development Program : A Case Study of a Royal Thai Army Hospital

This research was a qualitative research. The objectives of studying: 1) Studying the components of transformational leadership competencies possessed by Royal Thai Army hospital department chiefs and 2) Proposing a program to enhance transformational leadership competencies for Royal Thai Army hospital department chiefs. The process was conducted in 5 phases: (1) Document analysis and related research. (2) Instrumentation of interview form. (3) Data collection by in-depth interview. (4) Data evaluation and (5) Confirmation of results through group discussions. The in-depth interviewed by 18 informants and experts confirmed the results of the study by conducting group discussions with 5 participants. The findings demonstrated that there were 5 main components made up the change leadership competency of hospital department chiefs in the Royal Thai Army which were 1) Having Idealized Influence 2) Inspirational Motivation 3) Intellectual Stimulation 4) Individual Consideration and 5) Additional components of today's change leadership. The process of transformational leadership competency programs appropriated for Royal Thai Army hospital department chiefs was conducted in 3 phases: 1) Analysis and planning 2) Implementation and 3) Evaluation.
