Working Competency for Employee’s Effectiveness: A Case of Buddha Statue Casting Mills Located in Bangkok Metropolitan Region

Abstract
The objectives of this research were to study work effectiveness, work competency on the part of employees working in Buddha statue casting mills, and the relationship that might exist between employees’work effectiveness and their work competencies. The population selected for this study was employees working in Buddha statue casting mills. Sample of 400 employees were selected. Achievement, learning, ability and team working were the independent variables used to denote work competency. Adaptation, goal attainment, work integration, loyalty to one’s own organization were the dependent variables used to denote work effectiveness. Questionnaires were used as a tool to collect the data. The Statistical tools used in this research included both descriptive statistics (frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (simple regression and Pearson’s correlation coefficient)
The outcome of the study revealed that the overall scores denoting work competency, were high on a given rating scale, Achievement scored the highest while Teamwork scored the lowest. In addition, the overall scores denoting working effectiveness, were also high on a given rating scale. The highest score went to loyalty to one’s own organization while The lowest score went to adaptation.The study of the relationship between work competency and work effectiveness indicated that work competency was positively correlated to adaptation, goal attainment and work integration but working competency was not correlated to loyalty to one’s own organization.
