New Village Development Programme
Abstract
Thailand has been trying to improve her economic and social conditions for the last 20 years. Yet there are still poor people throughout the country especially in the Northeastern region. The new rural development strategies were set up in 1978. This included the establishment of the new village development programme funded by loan from Japan. The program aims at development villages in remote rainfed areas that receive minimal government services. The development plan has been set for 4,000 villages during 1979-1981 using the total amount of approximately one billion bath.
