Toward the New Society of Thailand
Abstract
Most of the third world countries today have followed the pattern of industrialized countries in developing their nations but this is not the practical way out. The industrialized countries today face many problems such as environmental pollution, energy shortage, unemployment, overcrowded cities, and mental disease. The third world countries themselves also cannot get out of the vicious circle of proverty characterized by poor agricultural production, illiteracy, unemployment, malnutrition, disease, and social injustice. The best way out especially for the third world countries is to emphasize on self-reliance. This means that people produce their own goods and services, utilize their own resources such as land and labors, and use appropriate technology. Thailand as the developing nation should direct her effort to develop a self-reliant society. The mean to this end is through education. People should be trained in using appropriate technology, self-government, communication, and religious practices. The purpose of the development is to ensure good life for people but not for power.
