The Role of the Mass Communications towards the Daily Life of the Bangkok People

Abstract

The objective of this research is to study the role of different kinds of mass media such as radio,television and newspaper on the way of living of the Bangkok people at the present. Included in the study was the behavior of the people in getting mass media mentioned and also the trends of mass media pattern and roles for the future way of living of the Bangkok people. Samples were 1000 males and females from 24 division of the Bangkok metropolitan who were the representative of their own household. Results suggested that all three kinds of mass media has effected way of life of the Bangkok people in different aspects. Most of the population watch television, listen to radio and read newspaper everyday or almost everyday. And duration of getting the mass media is relatively long. Purpose of using T.V. and radio is for entertainment while newspaper is for getting informations and knowledge. Television is the most happy making media in daily life. As it has been shown that at the free time during the weeks or weekend, people in all age level of both sex watch television more than getting other kinds of media. The categories of sex, age, educational level, occupation and income of the people are statistically significant correlated with the behavior of receiving the mass media. Also, if the socio-economic and political conditions are not quite different from the present, television will play the most important role of media to all classes, educational levels and occupation. The owners of colour television will be increased because the prices are cheaper and marketing techiques are better. Moreover, vediotape and cable television will be a media through television which should also play important role. Newspaper will be the second important role, it is expected “Thairaj” and “Daily News” will remain the most popular newspaper because of many sections. However, the newspaper with good popular as the level of the education of the people has been increased. For the radio, it is expected to play the role to the Bangkok people not much different from the present.
