Abstract

Rural sociology is an important academic field which can be applied effectively in rural development. However, there may be only a very few people whose work related to rural development both in policy planning and practicing understand the major roles of rural sociology and its contributions to rural development process. This article, then, aims at introducing the meaning, roles and functions of this academic area to whom afore mentioned as well as those who are interested in such development. The application of rural sociology in promoting rural development will be discussed in the later part of this paper.
