Abstract

The purpose of this research was to compare two techniques; self-study of the specimens using a colourful atlas and the study of specimens with the instructor guidance, in respiratory system of basic anatomy. Thirty students of the Diploma Program in Medical Science (Communication Disorders Audiological branch and Pathological branch), Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol Univerisity, were divide equally into two groups. The first group studied the gross specimens of organs in the respiratory system by themselves using atlas. The second group studied the same specimens under the explanation of the instructor. Both groups were given pre and post test with the same set of questions. The data were recorded and were calculated in mean, standard deviation and percentage. Then, t-test was used for the data analysis. The result showed no significant difference between two laboratory-learning techniques indicating that the atlas was a good device for laboratory self-study in gross anatomy teaching class.
