Public Relations Procedures for the Development of JPPCC Movement.
Abstract
Public Relations Subcommittee of the Joint Private-Public Consultative Committee (JPPCC) has its functions as the information service center which gathering and disseminating information on JPPCC activities and also coordinating with diverse groups of mass media and general public to achieve its goals. The purpose of this study were to study the perception and understanding of and related persons to JPPCC regarding (1) Objectives, status, and procedures of the main JPPCC, (2) functions and administrative system of the provincial JPPCC, (3) the awareness of the activities of the main JPPCC and the opinions through “JPPCC Newsletter”, and (4) the utilization of media in the public relations procedures of the provincial JPPCC including problems and recommendations in order to attain better coordination between the provincial JPPCC and main JPPCC. Population were 644 representatives of public and private agencies from 70 provinces of Thailand who participated in the seminar on public relations held at various regions during September 8 to December 2, 1986. Data were collected on a questionnaire basis with 483 representatives (75%) returned their responses. The analysis of data was operated by using frequency and percentage. The results revealed that 85% of the respondents had known about the objectives of JPPCC before participation the seminar, but only 32% agreed at the present status of the JPPCC which was the consultative committee and did not have decision making power. The respondents agreed that the JPPCC should play its roles by giving recommendations to solve some national economic problems. For the settlement of the provincial JPPCC, 97% of the respondents agreed and suggested that it should play important roles as the agency which proposes recommendations to solve the provincial economic problems as well as publicizes and conducts public relations activities to promote good will and cooperation between itself and the public and local private agencies. Regarding the perception of the movement of the main JPPCC, 95% of the respondents received information periodically. Major information sources from which the respondents identified were newspaper, JPPCC Newsletter, and television, respectively. For the JPPCC Newsletter, the respondents were interested in reading the JPPCC economic news the most. They also recommended that the columns of the government policy and other interest news should be included in the JPPCC Newsletter.
