Quality and Consumption of Toiler Paper in Bangkok Families
Abstract
The objectives of this research were to study the quality of toilet paper and survey the consumption of toilet paper in Bangkok families. Regarding to the quality of toilet paper, the physical characteristics such as strength, absorbency, tearing ease, weight and length were tested. The toilet papers which were used as the samples in this study were Kami, Kleenex, Cellox, Soft, Delsey, Tiss, Pinn, Maple, Lady Scott, Varex, and Scott. The survey of famigy consumption of toilet paper was undertaken from 300 families in Bangkok. The sample was selected from the list of names in telephone book by using simple random sampling method. Frequency, percentage, mean, and rank order were employed to analyze the data. The results revealed that 8 brand names of toilet paper had higher tensile strength than standard of industrial products in both machine direction and cross machine direction. They were Kami, Kleenex, Delsey, Pinn, Maple, Lady Scott, Varex, and Scott. In testing the absorption capacity, it indicated that Tiss the highest capacity to absorb the water. After tearing the toiler papers off the rolls to test whether which one came off neatly, it was found that Scott separated easily and neatly at the perforations. Furthermore, it was found that Kami was the heaviest toilet paper when being weighed without paper core; and Lady Scott had longer length than others. When comparing the measured length to the indicated length which shown on the label; Kami, Soft, Tiss, Pinn, Maple, Lady Scott, and Scott had longer measured length than indicated length. The family consumption of toilet paper in Bangkok was study, and found that Bangkok families which composed of 5 members consumed toilet paper about 9.75 rolls per month, or consumed 2 rolls per month per person in the average. The most popular toilet paper used in the family was Delsey. The quality of toilet paper was the major reason for decision making of buying. The study also indicated that housewife was the one who made the choice of brand names; and most of them bought the toilet paper from the department stores or the supermarkets.Downloads
