Attitudes and Opinions of Farmers towards the Students’s Role Amphoe Kamphaeng Saen, Changwat Nakhon Pathom

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the farmers’ basic socio-economic background, famer’s knowledge of agriculture, their problems in faming and attitudes of farmers towards the students’ role in promoting agriculture. The study sample were 150 farmers of farming, Amphoe kamphaeng Saen, Changwat Nakhon Pathom. These failies got agricultural extension from the Faculty of Agriculture students, B.E. 2530-2533. The constructed interview schedules were used to collect the data, together with statistically analyzed in terms of percentage, arithmetic means and chi-square test. The results of study were : Farmers’ Socio-economic background: The majority of farmers were male 70.67 percent with the average age of 46.45 years. Most of them 68.67 percent had completed 4 years of primary education. Their family members were 4-6 persons. The average land for agriculture were 17.15 rai per family. The average annual income per family were 150,630 baht. Farmers’ knowledge about agriculture : Most of the farmers needed not get agricultural knowledge because of their homes closed to the Kasetsart University at Kamphaeng Saen. Whenever the farmers get problems in farming, they usually went directly to see the teachers on the campus. Most of farmers’ problems in farming were past control, low price of production, and the following lack: capital, water in agriculture, plant flooding, land use for agriculture, information on improvement of soil fertility and labours. Farmers’ attitude and opinion towards the students’ role in the promoting agriculture : the farmers had very good attitudes towards the students’ role in growing plant, Poultry farming, pesticide application and the promoting agriculture to youth in school. There were no significant relations between their attitudes and their age, education and income.
