Public Relations of Kasetsart University Main Library

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the opinion of faculties, officials as well as students who working and study in Kasetsart University, Bangkok Campus during academic year 1989, towards the suitability of the various patterns and approaches of the library public relations adopted by Main Library, Kasetsart University. These patterns such as Library Instruction Manual, Newsletters, New Book Exhibitions/Book News and Current Content News, Library Tours, Exhibitions and Bulletin Boards are uses in current to help the users get information concerned within appropriate time. The results revealed that, a large number of the users get information from Library Instruction Manual by entering library is membership, as well as getting from Newsletters by distributing in the library. Some also getting information from New Book Exhibitions by participating the events while some getting from Book News and Current Content News, by inspecting bulletin boards or circulation of their own faculties. Some ways getting from Library Tour by taking part with freshy’s orientation as well as getting from Library’s Exhibitions and Newspaper Board by inspiring of their own interests. When the patterns and the method of public relations are compared by means of suitable scores. It is found that, the users who are faculties including officials agreed that, Newspaper Board are most suitable methods of public relations while the users who are students agreed that New Book Exibitions are most suitable. However, after a chi-square have been tested to find out co-relation between the users and the method of getting information. It also found that, a type of library’s users and methods of getting information are co-related with 2 patterns. They are Newsletters and New Book Exhibitons/Book News and Current Content News. Furthermore, when the suitable scores are compared with the content according to typers of the users. It was appeared that, there were three various point of views. Firstly, the users who are faculties recommended the content of Library Instruction Manual are most suitable in content. Secondly, the users who are officials recommended that Library Instruction Manual and Bulletin Boards are most suitable in content, and Thirdly, the users who are students recommended that Library Tours are most suitable in content.
