Abstract

The Agribusiness Integration Project was the joint effort between the public and private sector in introducing modern technology to corn farmers with the financial support from BAAC. This study analyzed the economic performance of corn production under this project comparing to non-participated farmers in Prachin Buri province in term of productivity, economic efficiency of factor use and profitability. The study showed that labor and expenses on inputs such as seed, fertilizer and pesticide were important inputs affecting corn yield. However the use of such inputs was still below the optimum level. The cost and benefit analysis indicated that net profit of the participated farmers was around one thousand baht per rai compared to seven hundred baht of the non-participated famers, the higher net profit of the participated farmers was a result of relatively higher level of input use. Therefore conclusion can be drawn at this point that modern technology was a sound investment.
