The Development of Self-Directed Learning Characteristics of Students in Tourism Industry Classroom Through Research-Based Learning

The purpose of this study was to examine the results of Research-Based Learning (RBL.) in developing students' self-directed learning characteristics. Subjects were 40 students who enrolled in the Tourism Industry course. Pre and Post self-evaluation, open-ended questionnaires, students' journals, teachers' diaries, observation and focus group technique were used to collect data. The results were as follows: students' self-directed learning characteristics that RBL. could develop were ability to communicate ideas in different forms, ability to search for information, ability to accept others' ideas, self disciplined, critical thinking, team-working, self-confidence, enthusiasm to try new things.
