Emotional Intelligence and Career Success of Commercial Bank Officers

Abstract

     The objectives of this research were 1) to study the level of emotional intelligence and career success of commercial bank officers; 2) to compare emotional intelligence and career success of commercial bank officers with different backgrounds included age, marital status and experience; 3) to study the correlation between career success and emotional intelligence of commercial bank officers; 4) to predict career success of commercial bank officers from dimensions of emotional intelligence, age and experience. The sample of this study composed of 340 commercial bank officers in the Bangkok Metropolis. Data were collected by using questionnaires and analyzed by statistic computer program. The statistic included percentages, the mean and the standard deviation. Hypotheses were tested by t-test, F-test, Pearson product moment correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: 1) Commercial bank officers had a high level of emotional intelligence and moderate level of career success. 2) Commercial bank officers with different age, marital status and experience were not significant in emotional intelligence, but were significantly different in career success at the .05 level. 3) Emotional Intelligence was significantly correlated to career success at the .01 level. 4) Dimensions of emotional intelligence included social skill, self-regulation and age of bank officers could significantly predict 20.4 percent of variance of career success at the .05 level.
