Abstract

Organizations in every industrial sector need to undergo digital transformation. Educational institutions also face this challenge, but their response to digital technology has often been slow compared to other industries. This may be because educational institutions are involved with a diverse range of students with different needs. This research aimed to exploratory factor analysis and needs assessment of the modified priority needs of Digital Competencies of the Digital Open Universities. This research is an exploratory factor analysis, and an analysis of the modified priority needs index (PNI Modified) of digital competencies to the 230 people working at digital open universities in Thailand was obtained using two-stage random sampling method. We found that digital competencies consisted of five components: (1) namely, problem solving using digital devices; (2) use of digital devices and technology; (3) understanding of work; (4) adaption to changes in the digital world; and (5) digital communication. The results of this research indicated that it is necessary for open universities to develop the digital competencies of their staff. Achieving a rapid digital transformation will enable them to plan operations based on what is and what should be so that they can upgrade the skills of all their personnel and increase the competitiveness of the organization.
