This quantitative study explores the impact of augmented reality (AR), virtual
reality (VR), and adaptive learning on student competency. Using Structural
Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis, data from 197 students enrolled in an
educational technology course were analyzed. The results showed that AR/
VR significantly improved practical skills (R² = 0.60) and knowledge retention
(R² = 0.77), while adaptive learning increased student engagement and
motivation (coefficient = 0.52). Specifically, AR/VR improved long-term
knowledge retention and practical skills development, addressing a research
gap on its effectiveness in education. Metaverse, AR/VR, and adaptive
learning were shown to complement each other, optimizing learning outcomes.
The findings of this study have significant implications for educators,
policymakers, and technology developers seeking to leverage immersive
technologies. Key Points: 1) Enhanced knowledge retention through AR/VR
(R² = 0.77). 2) Enhanced practical skills development through AR/VR (R² = 0.60).
3) Enhanced student engagement and motivation through adaptive learning
(coefficient = 0.52). 4) Effective AR/VR and adaptive learning combination for
holistic learning outcomes. This study contributes to understanding immersive
technologies’ impact on student competencies, providing empirical evidence for
informed decision-making. The results present strategies for integrating AR/VR
and adaptive learning into educational practices, ultimately enhancing student
learning experiences and outcomes.
