Abstract

This research aimed to study types, styles and mistakes of writing special problem titles in English of bachelor’s degree students. The informants of this study were 373 majoring in Hotel and Tourism Management who have enrolled in Special Problems course. The data were gathered from 231 research titles. The findings have showed types of research titles, styles of research titles, and mistakes of research titles as follows: 1. Research titles were categorized by types: Descriptive title type was most often found and Declarative title type respectively. There was no Interrogative title type and Compound title type found in this research. 2. Research titles categorized by styles: three styles of writing research title found in this research were listed in order of frequency: British style, other style, and American style respectively. 3. Principles of research title writing mistakes: the mistakes occurred from the most to the least were as follows: writing in sentence, using inappropriate tenses, and using abbreviations respectively. 4. Grammatical mistakes of writing research title: the order mistakes occurred from the most to the least were as follows: translation and meaning, lexical selection, punctuation, spelling, word order respectively.
