The Chang and The Preservation Of Rituals and Traditions of Ban Non Duea Community Mueang District Manasarakham Province

Abstract

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate and study the changes and the
preservation of rituals and traditions of Ban Non Duea Community, Mueang District,
Mahasarakham Province. The result of the study has revealed that Ban Non Duea Community
adapts the ritual of worshipping Chao Pu Chang Wang and Mahesak Lak Ban, traditions and
culture which have been changed in accordance with urbanization and its growth. This has
caused the decline of some Hit Khong ; for example, the disappearance of Bun Khao Kam and
Bun Khun Lan, the integration between Bun Bang Fai and the ritual of worshipping Chao Pu
Chang Wang, Bun Sam Ha Ha practiced by 5 families only, and the integration between Bun
Khao Pradap Din and the ritual of Mahesak lak Ban
Urbanization and globalization have brought modernity and development to the
community. Therefore, new businesses and commerce have increasingly emerged. Such
businesses include commerce, contractor, housing estate, and partnership. These businesses
have attracted outsiders to live and share their belief together with native people. This causes
the changes of rituals and traditions.
However, the community does not absolutely cease the practice of rituals, Hit Khong,
beliefs and old culture. The people adapt themselves to today’s period in order to maintain
traditions, culture, and the ritual of worshipping Chao Pu Chang Wang to go together with
current society.
