An Analysis of the Export Competitiveness of Thai Cassava in the China's Market

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to analysis Thai cassava export to the Chinese market including a competitive advantage to show the market share of Thai cassava export to the Chinese market and in the Chinese market compared with the main competitor namely Vietnam. The paper was analyzed by the method of Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA). The data were collected from a website of United Nations Commodity Trade Statistic Database under a rubric of Harmonized System Code (HS): 71410 from 2004 to 2015.
The results indicated that Thailand had competitiveness in exporting cassava to the Chinese market. It was presented from the number of RCA that the exporting form Thailand was higher than 1 in every period of the study. It is similar to Vietnam, there was a comparative advantage of cassava export to the Chinese market, however, if Vietnamese’s cassava event details were focused, Vietnam’s exporting had a competitive advantage but its number of RCA was smaller than Thailand’s every year. Moreover, the trend of Thai cassava was continued increasing. In contrast, the trend of Vietnamese cassava export to the Chinese market was decreased.
In terms of the market share results, Thailand’s exporting had more potential to cover Chinese market than Vietnam’s in every period of the study. Moreover, the report was especially presented in 2012 that Thai cassava growth was in deposit way with Vietnamese. It means while Thai cassava was more increased in the Chinese market, Vietnamese cassava was decreased at the same time.
Cassava is a significant export agriculture product of Thailand in the Chinese market as presented of an analysis, Thailand has more competitiveness and market share in the exportation of cassava than Vietnam in 2004 to 2015.
