Conscription and Political Obligation
การเกณฑ์ทหารและพันธะทางการเมือง
Keywords:
Political Obligation, Conscription, Anti-conscriptionAbstract
The purpose of this paper is to show contradictions that conscription cannot be political obligations. The paper is separated in four parts. In the first part, it introduces three basic contemporary theories of political obligations; the Principle of Consent, the Principle of Fair Play and the Principle of Gratitude, which have been playing an important role in the debate. In the second part, it illustrates that accepting conscription significantly makes those theories unable to create political obligations. In the third part, it rebuts objections from the view of duties of Samaritanism in political obligations. In the fourth part, it rebuts other possible objections.
