The Effects of Cooperative Learning Management by the STAD Technique on the Reading Comprehension Ability and Attitude towards Thai Language Subject of Prathomsuksa 2 Students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare students’ reading comprehension ability students before and after received cooperative learning management by STAD technique and 2) compare students’ attitudes towards Thai language subject before and after received cooperative learning management by STAD technique. The sample was 30 Prathomsuksa 2 students at Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University Demonstration School, which obtained by cluster random sampling. The research instruments were 1) the most appropriate six lesson plans regarding the cooperative learning management by STAD technique, 2) the 20 items of reading comprehension ability test with the validity between 0.67- 1.00, the difficulty between 0.50 - 0.80, the discrimination between 0.20–0.72, and the reliability as 0.79, and 3) the questionnaire regarding the attitude toward Thai language subject with the validity equals 1.00 of all items, the discrimination between 1.78 - 7.13, and the reliability as 0.86. Data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation and t-test for dependent sample. The research findings were as follows: 1)  After learning, the students who received cooperative learning management with the STAD technique  had the reading comprehension ability after learning higher than before learning with statistically significant at the .05 level. 2)  After learning, the students who received the cooperative learning management with the STAD technique had the attitudes towards learning Thai language after learning higher than before learning with statistically significant at the .05 level.
