THE EFFECT OF CPTPP ON THE FARMERS’ RIGHTS IN THAILAND

Thailand is the agricultural country which most of population are farmers. Therefore, the development of agriculture sector is very crucial in Thailand. Thailand has abundant landscape which is compatible with agriculture sector. Agriculture has been one of the most important occupations in Thai society from past to the present. According to this, Thailand is the one of Asian countries has the potential amount of biodiversity. A number of plant varieties in Thailand are partly derived from the farmer’s path of life and their customs. However, a considerable number of companies try to revolve traditional agriculture sector to commercial sector which place importance for exportation. While subsistence is ignored. Many developed countries build trade pressures to low income countries in order to become influential country. Under these circumstances, plant varieties and seeds are seized. Additionally, Farmers’ Rights are diminished. This article analyze adhesion under CPTPP agreement in respect of Farmers’ Rights. Owing to, the parties in CPTPP agreement shall affiliate with UPOV 1991. In order to promote the motivation of Plant Breeder. According to this, CPTPP agreement is the potential barrier for farmers to access to plant varieties and seeds. As mentioned above, CPTPP agreement will become the adverse effect to farmers, biodiversity and food security in Thailand.
