TRANSLATION AND VALIDATION OF THE THAI VERSION OF PANIC BUYING SCALE (PBS-TH)

ABSTRACT
The aims of this research were: 1) to translate the panic buying scale (PBS) from English version to Thai version, and 2) to test items, validity and reliability of Thai version of the panic buying scale (PBS-TH). The samples of 1) the translation part were 10 Thai people with the average age 26.90 years (SD = 4.99), and 2) the validation part were 351 Thai people with the average age 36.21 years (SD = 9.28). The data collection carried out an online platform via Google Form. The instrument in this research was panic buying scale. Mean, standard deviation, corrected item-total correlation (CITC), Cronbach’s alpha if item deleted, Cronbach’s alpha, McDonald’s omega, Guttmann’s lambda and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) were used to analyze data on SPSS and JASP.
The results of the first objective showed that 7 items of the Thai version of panic buying scale (PBS-TH) appropriate with Thai context and culture. Moreover, Thai words in this scale were clear and correct. The results of the second objective showed that: 1) PBS-TH’s items mean ranged from 4.57 to 5.60 and r of PBS-TH’s corrected Item-total correlation ranged from 0.78 to 0.88, 2) The Cronbach’s alpha (α), McDonald’s omega (ω) and Guttmann’s lambda (λ) of PBS-TH were 0.95, 0.96 and 0.95 respectively, and 3) PBS-TH consisted of one factor. The eigenvalue of this factor was 5.50 which accounted for 78.56% of the variance. The factor loading of PBS-TH’s items ranged from 0.79 to 0.91. The statistical evidence referring to the results indicated the standard of Thai version of the Panic Buying Scale (PBS-TH).
