Effects of using disposable adult diapers instead of loop tampons for the assessment of blood loss in cesarean patients: nursing process approach

Abstract

The research title is to study the effects of using adult diapers instead of loop tampons for the assessment of blood loss in cesarean section patients: application of nursing procedures. The aim of the study is to increase the efficiency of the assessment Blood loss in mothers undergoing caesarean sections using disposable adult diapers instead of loop tampons in mothers after caesarean section in the first 24 hours. The samples were all pregnant women who were scheduled for caesarean section and came to receive services at Luang Por Phae Khemungkaro Special Ward, 7th floor. They were selected by a specific sample of 148 people. The instruments used in the study consisted of (i) Nursing process results record form and 4T (ii) satisfaction assessment form (iii) Complications assessment of caesarean section form (iv) Recording expenses of cleaning or handling contaminated waste form. The content validity was yielded by 3 experts with a validity index of .80-1.00. The Alpha Cronbach's reliability statistical significance of the ii tool was .74., and data was analyzed by computer software program with descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage. The results of the study were as follows;

                    (1) Pregnant women, who were appoint to cesarean section at the 7th floor special ward, numbering 148 cases and receiving care according to the guidelines 100% found that the mother after the cesarean section had postpartum hemorrhage, 1 case, or 0.14%.

                    (2) The satisfaction of mothers after caesarean section, postpartum wards nurses, the operating room nurses, and the operating room nurses on the use of disposable tape adult diapers among mothers after cesarean section in the first 24 hours was at the high level with the average of 72.23%-95.25%.

                    (3) Post-operative complications were found: 3.1) Postpartum hemorrhage rate was 0.14. 3.2) The CAUTI rate among mothers after caesarean section using tape adult diapers was 0 (< 4 times per 1000 hospital-days). 3.3) The rate of surgical wound infection among mothers after caesarean section using tape disposable adult diapers was 0 (< 2 times per 1000 hospital-days).

                    (4) The expenses for cleaning can be reduced for from 7.30 Baht per 1 kilogram.
