Abstract

This research aimed to study the marginality in Botan’s novel “Phuying khon nan chute Bunrot” by focusing on Bunrot’s characteristics. The results of this research manifested that there were four aspects of marginality. Firstly, it was the marginal characteristic of Bunrot in two contexts, which are in the geographical context and in the social and cultural context. Secondly, there were the presentation techniques for creatingBunrot, the marginal character: through the plot, through the narrator, through the settings, and through the character's dialogue. Thirdly, theimageofmarginal people inBunrot’s character is found in her appearance, surroundings, and occupation. Lastly, it was the character’s retaliation. It showed that she responded by explanation, arguing, and self-development. Overall, the results of this study reflected Bunrot’s marginality.
