ARTISTIC VIEWPOINT IN EROTIC SCENES IN THAI FILMS

Abstract

        This research aims to study the artistic aspects of erotic scenes in Thai films using qualitative analysis methods, specifically film scripts analysis. The objectives are: 1. To analyze the artistic aspects in erotic scenes in Thai films, and 2. To reflect on the issues in film censorship and the implications for amending the Film and Video Act of 2008. The study found that Thai films featuring erotic scenes utilize beauty in artistic and aesthetic presentations in two ways: 1. Presenting physical beauty, which involves showcasing attractive visual elements within a scene, harmoniously blending various visual components, and organizing artistic elements to create an impression on the audience, and 2. Presenting emotional beauty, which highlights the attractiveness of emotions within the film's content. In this case, the scene's imagery is not the primary focus, but rather serves as a mere component of the film's storytelling.

        As films are a form of mainstream media, the presentation of erotic scenes must be considered in relation to censorship to prevent the propagation of distorted values and imitative behavior that could potentially cause social unrest. This occasionally leads to conflicts between filmmakers and censorship committees. Films featuring erotic scenes should, therefore, balance the presentation of artistic and aesthetic elements in physical and emotional beauty to ensure that the erotic scenes maintain their beauty within the framework of art and aesthetics.
