MARRIAGE WITH CHILD

Abstract
Marriage with a child under the age of 17 is considered an illegal marriage. However, there is a legal gap that causes this problem still persists, and in some cases, children do not consent with own their marriage. This is caused by gender inequality and economic inequality. Child marriage consequently affects on both children's health and education. Moreover, there are also issues of sexual harassment and domestic violence.
In Thailand, the law related to child marriage protection is not suitable since it does not protect the children’s right of marriage. According to Thailand's culture which is also closely linked to the religion and values of the local people, as well as, the justice system, or problems solutions by government agencies, and children and their parents are not capable of accessing to the legal process. Therefore, it is deemed appropriate to amend the provisions of the law to be consistent with the current situation.
