THE STUDYING OF ABILITY TO APPLIED MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE TO PROBLEMS SOLVING ACCORDING TO PISA ASSESSMENT OF GRADE 4 – 9 STUDENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to present an approach for assessing and evaluating students’ ability to apply mathematical knowledge in problem-solving, following the assessment framework of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). The target group includes students from Grade 4 to Grade 6 and from Grade 7 to Grade 9. A test was developed to measure this ability, comprising three parts: Part 1 – Reading comprehension from problem situations; Part 2 – Problem-solving through the application of basic mathematical knowledge; and Part 3 – Written explanation of the problem-solving process.
The study results show that students in Grades 4–6 and Grades 7–9 achieved the following average scores; Part 1: 68.03% and 82.77% of the total score, respectively; Part 2: 41.05% and 53.80% of the total score, respectively; and Part 3: 13.20% and 29.04% of the total score, respectively
