Way of life and Identity of Iu Mien Ban Nai Grang, Kra Buri District, Ranong Province

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to; 1) study the general social conditions of the Iu Mien Ban Nai Grang, Kra Buri District, Ranong Province, 2) study the way of life and traditions of the Iu Mien Ban Nai Grang, Kra Buri District Ranong Province, and 3) study ethnic identity and creation of social space of Iu Mien Ban Nai Grang, Kra Buri District, Ranong Province. The qualitative research methods data were collected by semi-structured in-depth interviews participatory observation and group discussions with 20 key informants. The results of the research were as follows: 1) the social conditions of the Iu Mien Ban Nai Grang there is a cultural compatibility between traditional and new society, Ruled by the principle of seniority, men have higher social status than women. Most of them are engaged in agriculture growing coffee, durian and rubber. 2) Way of life and traditions Iu Mien Ban Nai Grang even though the Buddhist religion and Christianity but still strictly respecting the spirits of the ancestors, especially the kinship system, surname, family, including respecting the gods and angels, holy things, order of days, months, years in performing important ceremonies; 3) the preservation of ethnic identity and the creation of a social space for the Iu Mien Ban Nai Grang. There are mechanisms for cooperation of community network partners to manage knowledge and gather information systematically.As well as communicating to society through language, faith, food, traditional dress, thus maintaining a way of life and the identity of Iu Mien Ban Nai Grang, Choporo Sub district, Kra Buri District, Ranong Province in a strong way.
