Thai Local Ethnic Groups with New Security: Case Study of the Kuy Ethnic Groups in Surin Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research aimed to: 1) to study the cultural context of the Thai local community of the Kui ethnic group in Surin Province and 2) to preserve and continue the culture of the Thai local community of the Kui ethnic group. and 3) to find ways to create a value-added cultural economy for local communities of the Kui ethnic group. The study mainly used qualitative research methodologies.The results showed that 1) the Kui ethnic group is a local ethnic group in Thailand. It has its own history, culture, traditions, lifestyle, language, and character for a long time and is linked to the same ethnic groups in neighboring countries, such as Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, so it is an inter-state security partnership that can create a new community economy and security together. Nowadays, there is still a culture. Traditions with economic value, both at the local community level and in neighboring countries, need to be accelerated in terms of conservation and restoration. The Sufficiency Economy Philosophy is applied creatively, and 3) the main guidelines for creating added value in the cultural industry economy consist of 3.1) The government must have clear policies and strategies for the economic development of ethnic communities. 3.2) Develop communities to use cultural industry technology for competition and enhance community businesses. The private sector and the Kui ethnic group must integrate cooperation and participate in the restoration of their ethnic cultures to be strong enough to accommodate changes in the new security context.
