บทคัดย่อ

บทความนี้อภิปรายแนวคิด ทฤษฎีและปรัชญาของสถาปัตยกรรมพื้นถิ่น โดยชี้ให้เห็นประเด็นและสาระสำคัญของสถาปัตยกรรมพื้นถิ่นในบริบทสากลที่ได้รับการศึกษาในช่วงหลายทศวรรษที่ผ่านมา เพื่อสร้างฐานข้อมูลการวิจัยและการศึกษาด้านพื้นถิ่นของไทย เพื่อเป็นการเชื่อมโยงด้านวิชาการไทยกับสากลและนำไปสู่การพัฒนาทฤษฎี แนวคิด แนวทางและวิธีการศึกษาพื้นถิ่นที่กว้างขวาง สาระสำคัญของบทความนี้อยู่ที่การอภิปรายแนวคิดและความหมายอันหลากหลายของสถาปัตยกรรมพื้นถิ่น เพื่อชี้ให้เห็นว่าสถาปัตยกรรมพื้นถิ่นมิใช่เป็นเพียงประเด็นสถาปัตยกรรมแต่เป็นประเด็นผสมผสานของศาสตร์หลายสาขาโดยการผนวกสภาพแวดล้อม วิถีชีวิต ความคิด ความเชื่อของผู้สร้างและผู้อยู่อาศัยเข้าด้วยกัน จึงมีความสำคัญในฐานะที่เป็นมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมและในฐานะสถาปัตยกรรมที่มีจำนวนมากที่สุดในโลก แต่กระนั้นก็ตามสถาปัตยกรรมพื้นถิ่นยังขาดการยอมรับ การรับรองและการให้ความสำคัญตามฐานะที่ควรจะเป็น บทความนี้เสนอแนะว่าการอนุรักษ์หรือสืบทอดสถาปัตยกรรมพื้นถิ่นควรมีการผนวกการศึกษา วิจัยและปฏิบัติวิชาชีพเข้าด้วยกันเพื่อให้เป็นสหวิทยาการที่เกี่ยวเนื่องและให้ขับเคลื่อนไปในทิศทางการพัฒนาร่วมกัน

Abstract

This paper discusses the issues, concepts, theories and philosophies of vernacular architecture. It addresses the essence of discourses in vernacular architecture over decades by providing key literatures that embrace theoretical and practical context of vernacular architecture. The expected outcome of this paper aims at the development of theories, concepts, approaches and methods of vernacular studies in the diversified context of Thailand. Significantly this paper explicates the diverse meanings of vernacular architecture to point out that vernacular architecture study is not merely about architecture but about multi-disciplines in which environment, ways of life, ideas and beliefs are tied together. Vernacular architecture therefore has significance as cultural heritage and as the majority of architecture in the world. Nevertheless vernacular architecture has gained only little recognition, acknowledgement and significance it deserves. This paper departs by emphasizing that conservation and transmission of vernacular knowledge should be directed in such a way to embrace inter-disciplines from education, research and practice.
