Abstract

The purpose of this study was twofold: First, to analyze the Confirmatory Selected Components (CSC) on the captain leadership at Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (the TAIPCL); and Second, to analyze and to present the captain leadership model; and Third, to compare the CSC of captain at the TAIPCL with their experiences. Data from 560 questionnaires of captains were drawn to use in the study. Statistics were used to analyze as frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation, factor analysis, path analysis, and Independent sample t-test. Research results were as follows: 1) All selected components [namely Self-confidence (knowledge and ability, personality, and environment); experience (solving emergency problem, cooperation, and technology); managerial administration (teamwork, follow-up and development, administrative skills); and captain leadership (fast solving problems, continued leader, and flexibility)] were as crucial components on the captain leadership at the .05 level of significance. The following factor loads (standardized score solution) of those components as 0.37, 0.38, 0.35, 0.37, 0.33, 0.36, 0.38, 0.39, 0.39, 0.37, 0.36, and 0.39 respectively; and 2) For the leadership model of captain at the TAIPCL, it revealed that leaderships of captains were received directly from their experiences and self-confidences. Moreover, they were also received indirectly and spuriously from their experiences and self-confidences. These variables could predict the captain leadership as 78.40 percent, at the .05 level of significance; and 3) As a result of comparing the CSC of captains with experience, it found that captains who had more experiences had the CSC leaderships higher than another captains in all components [namely, solving emergency problem, cooperation, technology, teamwork, follow-up and development, administrative skills, fast solving problems, continued leader, and flexibility] at the .05 level of significance.
