The role of monks and social enterprises : a case study of phra ratchadhammanitet (phra phayom kanlayano)

Abstract

Social change, monks need to adjust strategies to help develop society both physically and mentally causing monks to play a role in social enterprise. This research is a qualitative study aimed to 1. study the role of monks as a social entrepreneur in the social enterprise  (the case study of Phraratchathamnitate Phrapayom Kanlayano), illustrating the importance, benefits, and limitations in the operation 2. proposing a social entrepreneurship approach that is appropriate for the monks and in harmony with the current social context. Research instruments Researchers collect data from documents and visit field observations to obtain comprehensive and reliable information. And analyze the data by compiling the received data to meet the research objectives, analyzing the data with facts and empirical evidence. The results showed that PhraPhayom's principles of social enterprise in various forms are a consequence of childhood poverty. In addition, PhraPhayom has a good example of being diligent, through his mother’s. PhraPhayom has a teaching mindset that “When seeing one’s own benefit, hurriedly taking action for one’s benefit, When seeing benefits for others, hurriedly taking action for the benefits of others, or taking action for both one's own benefit and others at the same time without any negligences with publishing support and development. The importance and benefits of PhraPhayom Kanlayano's social enterprise to help people of all groups in society. The limitation is that monks cannot do business for full profit can be done in some cases that are not contrary to the principles of moral discipline. Recommendations The National Buddhism Office and the Sangha Parents must support the monks doing social activities
